Ruhlander, Lucas to attend leadership conference

Ruthie Rulander of Fayetteville High School and Tucker Lucas of Riverside Christian Academy have been selected to attend the 2018 Youth Leadership Summit sponsored by the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association and Fayetteville Public Utilities, March 12-14 in Nashville, TN, at the Maxwell House Millennium Hotel.

Each year, two junior class students (one boy and one girl) are chosen from each participating electric system’s service area to participate in the Youth Leadership Summit. Student applications are submitted to FPU from each local high school. Ruhlander and Lucas were selected based on their accomplishments and leadership roles which also include school organizations/activities, church activities and participation in community events.

This two and one-half day seminar educates young leaders about our state government and hometown electric cooperatives and rural electric systems, enhances leadership abilities and gives them an opportunity to meet our state legislators on Capitol Hill. Other highlights include a tour of the State Capitol and an opportunity to listen to House and Senate Committee meetings at Legislative Plaza. The group will spend a day at the Nashville YMCA learning teamwork and problem-solving while also enhancing their leadership skills.

While at the Summit, Ruhlander and Lucas will also learn from electric system employees the importance of having a hometown utility in their community.

Ruthie Ruhlander is the daughter of Fritz and Sharon Ruhlander of Fayetteville. Tucker Lucas is the son of Matthew and Linda Lucas of Fayetteville.
