Fayetteville Public Utilities’ Operations Department employees were honored recently as the utility held Operations Appreciation Day to show appreciation for all employees who work in challenging and often dangerous conditions to make sure electric, natural gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications services are available 24 hours a day.
According to FPU’s CEO and General Manager Britt Dye, established appreciation days already exist for honoring our nation’s electric linemen and natural gas utility workers. At FPU, a multi-service utility, all operations crews are equally important and deserve a day of special recognition.
“We are proud to recognize all of our operations crews for the services they perform around the clock in difficult conditions to protect our customers’ safety and to ensure you have utility services each time you turn on a switch, push a button or twist a faucet,” says FPU’s CEO and General Manager Britt Dye.
Employees who work in the FPU Operations Department have set the bar high for safety on the job. Utility crews know that one overlooked step can be costly when it comes to working safely, so they make every effort to secure job sites, inspect equipment and discuss each construction job before it begins to create a safe work environment for employees.
“We want our employees to go home to their families at the end of the work day,” states Dye, referring to the safe work habits of FPU employees.
“Our operations department employees are the first responders of our utility, and they’re always ready to get the job done, day or night,” says Dye. “Whether they’re restoring power after a major storm or maintaining critical infrastructure to our utility system, these employees are at the heart of everything we do. Of FPU’s 107 employees, more than 60 work together to maintain utility services for customers in our service area. In emergency situations, these employees go above and beyond to restore utility services, working tirelessly until the job is done. It doesn’t matter which department is affected by an outage or leak, they all pitch in to restore service and care for our customers. It is that kind of employee commitment that we appreciate and celebrate.”
“We thank our employees for their hard work and for how they remain dedicated to making sure everything runs smoothly and safely at FPU,” says Dye.
