FPU not associated with water service line insurance offer

Fayetteville Public Utilities (FPU) reminds its customers that the utility is not associated with HomeServe USA Repair Management Corporation, an independent company offering emergency home repair services and protection solutions to homeowners in the area.

HomeServe recently mailed information to FPU water service customers offering optional insurance to repair homeowner water service lines. The coverage claims to offer a 24-hour emergency hotline, priority response from local and insured contractors and other guarantees.

“We want to remind FPU customers that this offer for homeowner water service line insurance does not come from FPU,” says FPU’s CEO and General Manager Britt Dye. “Repairs or replacement of the water service lines are the responsibility of the water customer.”

“As we have advised in previous articles, phone calls and letters may appear to be official, and the company soliciting your business or investment may even display our utility name,” says Dye. “We encourage you to always check to make sure that the information comes from an established and trusted company.”

“FPU did not compromise customer information or addresses to HomeServe,” said Dye. “Under the ‘Red Flag Rule’ which we adopted in 2008, FPU has in place several security measures to protect utility customer information from identity theft and fraud.”
