FPU welcomes Chamber's Student Advisory Board for tour

SAB photoSeventeen high school juniors and seniors toured Fayetteville Public Utilities in December as part of their monthly Chamber of Commerce Student Advisory Board (SBA) meeting. Students enjoyed lunch at the facility as they conducted their monthly meeting in the utility's board room.

Fayetteville Public Utilities' CEO Britt Dye welcomed the group and gave a brief overview of what the utility does. During his welcome, Dye made a special presentation to Katlyn Barnes, an SBA member and also the 2009 Youth Leadership Council representative for Tennessee - an honor extending from the Fayetteville Public Utilities sponsorship of the annual Washington Youth Tour. Katlyn's parents, Tim and Dora Barnes, were there to witness the presentation of the award.  Katlyn award

Katlyn will be representing Tennessee at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA, in February.

After lunch, students were led on a tour of the main office by Gina Warren, Fayetteville Public Utilities' public information specialist. The group visited the accounting and customer service departments. They saw the SCADA, dispatch and operations center, natural gas showroom, warehouse facility, telecom headend, and the Channel 6 edit bay and TV interview set.

In a note from Haley Cobb, the Chamber's SAB secretary, she said that their tour was "very interesting as their Board had the opportunity to learn about all the hard work and dedication that goes in to keeping Lincoln County up and running."
